Live certificate pricing is temporarily unavailable. Please check again shortly.

Billing term and certificate validity are different.

Your subscription or billing period can be longer than the validity of an individual publicly trusted TLS certificate. Certificate lifetime, validation and reissuance requirements follow the issuing certificate authority and current browser/industry rules.

FIND THE RIGHT CERTIFICATE

Match the Certificate to Your Domain Coverage and Validation Needs.

Coverage and validation solve different problems. First decide which hostnames the certificate must cover, then choose how much identity validation the use case requires.

Single-Domain DV for a Standard Website

Choose a domain-validated single-domain certificate when one website hostname needs HTTPS and organization identity validation is not required.

View GrabbyStart SSL

Another Single-Domain DV Option

This product currently uses Domain Validation and single-domain coverage. Review the verified commercial certificate details before choosing between the available DV options.

View GrabbyPro SSL

Wildcard SSL for One Domain and Its Subdomains

Choose wildcard coverage when the certificate needs to secure one primary domain and multiple supported subdomains under that domain.

View GrabbyWildcard SSL

Extended Validation for Verified Organization Identity

Choose EV when the organization needs the certificate issuance process to include the highest identity-validation level in the current DV/OV/EV model.

View GrabbyElite EV SSL

Validation and coverage are different choices.

DV, OV and EV describe how certificate information is validated. Single-domain, wildcard and multi-domain describe which hostnames the certificate covers. A wildcard certificate is therefore a coverage type, not a higher identity-validation level.

WHY SSL MATTERS

Why HTTPS Matters for Modern Websites.

A valid SSL/TLS certificate enables encrypted HTTPS connections between supported browsers and the website for the hostnames covered by the certificate.

Encrypt data in transit

TLS encryption helps protect information while it travels between the visitor's browser and the website server.

Avoid plaintext HTTP connections

Serve the website over HTTPS so supported browsers do not have to use an unencrypted HTTP connection.

Support a secure page experience

HTTPS is a standard technical foundation for modern websites and is one part of providing a secure page experience.

Protect sensitive website connections

Use HTTPS wherever customers submit forms, account information, checkout requests or other data that should not travel over plaintext HTTP.

Use a valid trusted certificate

A valid certificate for the requested hostname allows supported browsers to establish a trusted TLS connection when the certificate chain and server configuration are correct.

Verify identity at the appropriate level

DV verifies control of the domain, while organization-validated certificate types apply additional identity checks where that level of validation is required.

WHAT SSL DOES — AND DOESN'T DO

HTTPS Encrypts the Connection. It Does Not Make a Website Invulnerable.

An SSL/TLS certificate is an important security foundation, but it solves a specific problem: encrypted transport and certificate validation. Website software, accounts and servers still need their own security controls.

SSL/TLS encrypts network traffic

A valid HTTPS connection helps protect data from being read or altered while it travels between the browser and correctly configured server.

Validation depends on certificate type

DV confirms control of a domain. Organization-validation levels apply additional identity checks to the certificate applicant.

SSL does not remove malware

A TLS certificate does not scan website files, patch vulnerable software or remove malicious code from a compromised website.

SSL does not guarantee a site is trustworthy

HTTPS confirms an encrypted connection to the hostname represented by the certificate. It should not be treated as proof that every website using HTTPS is legitimate or safe.

Need broader website protection?

SSL/TLS protects the connection. If you also need website-security, monitoring or malware-related services, review the separate GrabbyHost website-security options.

A CLEAR SECURITY JOURNEY

From Certificate Choice to HTTPS in Four Steps.

  1. 01

    Choose the certificate

Match the required hostname coverage and validation level to the website or organization.

  2. 02

    Complete validation

Confirm domain control and, where the selected certificate requires it, provide the organization information needed for additional validation.

  3. 03

    Certificate issuance

The issuing certificate authority completes the required checks and issues the certificate when validation succeeds.

  4. 04

    Install and verify HTTPS

Install the issued certificate on the required server or service and verify that HTTPS, hostname coverage and the certificate chain work correctly.

Certificates need lifecycle management.

Publicly trusted TLS certificate lifetimes are becoming shorter under browser and certificate-authority industry requirements. A longer commercial subscription can therefore require certificate reissuance during the subscription period.

SSL CERTIFICATE QUESTIONS

SSL Certificate Questions Before You Choose a Plan.

Clear answers about HTTPS, validation, wildcard coverage, certificate lifetimes, installation and what SSL does—and does not—protect.

An SSL certificate—more accurately a TLS certificate—allows a website to establish an encrypted HTTPS connection for the hostnames covered by the certificate. It helps protect data while it travels between the visitor's browser and the server.

TLS is the modern protocol used to secure HTTPS connections. The term "SSL certificate" is still widely used commercially, even though modern browser connections use TLS rather than the older SSL protocols.

Domain Validation (DV) verifies control of the domain being secured. Extended Validation (EV) applies additional checks to verify the legal organization requesting the certificate. EV does not automatically mean stronger connection encryption than DV; the main difference is the level of identity validation.

Choose wildcard coverage when one primary domain and multiple supported subdomains need to be covered by the same certificate, for example services under the same base domain. If only one hostname needs coverage, a single-domain certificate may be more appropriate.

No. SSL/TLS encrypts the network connection and provides certificate validation, but it does not patch website software, prevent weak passwords, remove malware or secure vulnerable applications. Those risks require separate website and server security measures.

Timing depends on the certificate type, certificate authority, validation method and how quickly the required information can be confirmed. Domain Validation is generally simpler than organization or Extended Validation. Use the current product/order information rather than relying on a universal issuance-time promise.

Not necessarily. A subscription or billing term can extend beyond the validity period of an individual publicly trusted TLS certificate. Certificate lifetime and reissuance requirements follow the issuing certificate authority and current browser-industry rules.

Available installation assistance depends on where the website is hosted, the target server or control panel and the certificate product being used. Contact GrabbyHost with the domain and hosting environment if you need help confirming the installation options.
