Move the registrar, not the website
A domain transfer changes the managing registrar. Your website hosting does not have to move with it.

Check These Domain Transfer Requirements First.
Transfer rules vary by extension, but a few checks can prevent most avoidable delays before you submit the request.
Unlock the domain
Make sure the registrar lock is removed at your current provider when the domain extension uses the standard registrar-transfer process.
Get the current Auth Code
Request the EPP or Auth Code from your current registrar for domain extensions that require one.
Check for transfer locks
For many generic top-level domains, a transfer may be blocked during the first 60 days after registration or a previous registrar transfer. Certain registrant-information changes can also trigger a 60-day transfer lock.
Be ready to confirm the request
Keep access to the account and contact methods used by your current registrar in case transfer confirmation is required.
After the transfer

Domain transfer questions
Domain Transfer Questions Before You Start.
Clear answers about eligibility, Auth Codes, transfer locks, pricing, website continuity and registrar-transfer timing.
A domain transfer moves the registration of an existing domain from one registrar to another. It does not require you to rebuild the website or move the hosting service. DNS and nameserver settings still need to remain correctly configured for connected website and email services to continue working.
For many domains, you should unlock the domain at the current registrar, obtain the current EPP or Auth Code and confirm that the domain is not subject to an applicable transfer lock. Some extensions use different requirements, so check the current process for the TLD you are transferring.
An EPP or Auth Code is a transfer authorization credential provided by the current registrar for domain extensions that use it. Look for the transfer or authorization-code option in your current registrar account, or request the code from that registrar.
For many generic top-level domains, registrar-transfer rules can prevent another transfer during the first 60 days after initial registration or a previous transfer. Certain changes to registrant information can also trigger a 60-day transfer lock. Some country-code domains use different rules.
A registrar transfer does not require your website hosting to move. When the domain keeps the correct nameservers and DNS records, existing website and email services can normally remain connected. If DNS changes are required, plan those changes carefully to reduce disruption.
Transfer pricing depends on the domain extension and the current commercial catalogue. Many eligible transfers also extend the registration term, but the result varies by TLD, registry policy and circumstances such as recent renewal activity. Review the current transfer price and transfer details before checkout.
Transfer timing depends on the TLD, current registrar, registry process and any required confirmation. Many standard registrar transfers complete within several days, while domains with special requirements or transfer issues can take longer.
No. Transfer eligibility depends on the extension, domain status, applicable registry rules, transfer locks and current registrar conditions. Expired, locked, recently registered or recently transferred domains can require additional steps or may not be transferable immediately. Some extensions also use a different transfer procedure.
