How to Transfer a Domain to GrabbyHost from Squarespace (Google Domains)

Google Domains moved to Squarespace, so domains originally registered with Google Domains are now managed from your Squarespace Domains account. This guide covers unlocking your domain there and completing the transfer to GrabbyHost.

Step 1: Get Your Transfer Code from Squarespace

1. Sign in and go to your domains dashboard at account.squarespace.com/domains.
2. Select your domain and find the Domain Lock toggle.
3. Switch the lock off to unlock the domain.
4. Click Request transfer code and confirm with your password or two-factor authentication.
5. Click OK — this sends an email to your domain's registrant contact address.
6. Check that inbox within 24 hours for an email from no-reply@squarespace.com with the subject "Auth code for [yourdomain.com]," and copy the code.

If you don't receive the email within 24 hours, double-check the registrant email address under your domain's Registration Information and request the code again. Note that transferring the domain does not affect or cancel a Squarespace website — it only moves the domain's registration.

Step 2: Start the Transfer at GrabbyHost

1. Log in to your GrabbyHost client area and go to the Domains section, or start a new order and choose Transfer My Domain.
2. Enter your domain name and the authorization code from Squarespace.
3. Complete checkout for the transfer, which includes a 1-year renewal at the new registrar.

Step 3: Approve the Transfer

Watch for a transfer confirmation email and approve it if prompted. The full process can take up to a couple of weeks, longer than some other registrars, so plan ahead if timing matters.

Note: if you use Google Workspace email with this domain, remember to update your MX records with GrabbyHost after the transfer to avoid an email interruption.
