Moving a domain from Bluehost to GrabbyHost is a quick process. This guide covers unlocking the domain and getting its authorization code in Bluehost, then completing the transfer in your GrabbyHost client area.
Step 1: Prepare Your Domain in Bluehost
- Log in to your Bluehost account and go to Domains.
- Select the domain you want to transfer, then open its Manage or Settings page.
- Turn off Domain Lock (sometimes shown as Transfer Lock) so the domain is unlocked for transfer.
- Disable Privacy Protection temporarily if it's on, then request the Authorization/EPP Code – Bluehost emails this to the domain's registrant contact address.
Note: a domain can't be transferred within 60 days of registration, a previous transfer, or certain registrant contact changes.
Step 2: Start the Transfer at GrabbyHost
- Log in to your GrabbyHost client area and go to the Domains section, or start a new order and choose Transfer My Domain.
- Enter your domain name and the authorization code you copied from Bluehost.
- Complete checkout for the transfer, which includes a 1-year renewal at the new registrar.
Step 3: Approve the Transfer
You'll receive a transfer confirmation email (sent to the registrant address on file) – you may need to approve the transfer there, or it may complete automatically after the standard waiting period if no action is taken. Transfers typically complete within 5–7 days.
