An SSL certificate encrypts traffic between your visitors' browsers and your website, shown as the padlock icon in the address bar. GrabbyHost includes free SSL (via AutoSSL/Let's Encrypt) on hosting plans, and this guide shows how to make sure it's active.
Before You Start
Your domain needs to be pointed to GrabbyHost's nameservers (or have an A record pointing to your hosting IP) before a certificate can be issued, since the certificate authority needs to verify you control the domain.
Checking or Installing Free SSL
- Log in to cPanel.
- Under the Security section, click SSL/TLS Status (this may also appear as "SSL/TLS" or "Manage SSL Sites" depending on your cPanel theme).
- You'll see a list of your domains and subdomains with their current SSL status.
- If a domain doesn't have a valid certificate yet, select it and click Run AutoSSL to request one.
AutoSSL runs automatically in the background too, so most domains that are correctly pointed to GrabbyHost will have a free certificate issued without any action needed. Installation can take anywhere from a few minutes up to a few hours after your domain first points to us.
Verifying SSL Is Working
Visit your website using https:// in front of your domain and check for the padlock icon in your browser's address bar. If you see a certificate warning, double check that your domain is fully pointed to GrabbyHost and allow some time for AutoSSL to issue the certificate.
