CodeGuard is GrabbyHost's website backup add-on. It keeps an independent copy of your website — separate from your hosting account — so you have something to restore from if a bad update, a hack, or an accidental deletion damages your site. This is a different layer of protection to the backups your hosting plan may already include: CodeGuard's copies live outside your day-to-day hosting environment, on Amazon S3 storage with AES-256 encryption.
What CodeGuard Does
- Automated backups – CodeGuard connects to your website and captures its content on an automated schedule, so you don't have to remember to run manual backups.
- Differential backups after the first copy – once the initial full backup is done, later backups only need to capture what changed, which keeps the process efficient.
- Change monitoring – CodeGuard tracks which files were added, modified or removed between backups, so you can see exactly what changed and when.
- Restore options – roll back all or part of your website to an earlier backed-up version when something goes wrong.
- Website and supported database backup – protects your website files and, where the required credentials are set up, your supported databases too.
- Independent off-site storage – backups are stored separately from your hosting environment, so a problem on your hosting account doesn't take your backup copy down with it.
How It Works
- Connect your website – CodeGuard needs website access (normally SFTP or FTP) to retrieve your files; supported database backup can require separate database credentials.
- Initial backup – CodeGuard retrieves your website content and creates the first full backup copy.
- Ongoing monitoring and backups – later backups identify changed, added or deleted files, so your version history stays up to date.
- Restore when needed – use CodeGuard's restore options to recover all or part of your website from an earlier backup.
Choosing a Plan
CodeGuard plans are sized by backup storage capacity — from 1GB up to 200GB — and every plan includes the same core features: automated backup, change monitoring and restore. Choose a plan based on how much website data you need to protect, not by feature differences, since automated backup, monitoring and restore are included at every tier. Compare current storage tiers and pricing on the CodeGuard page.
Getting Started
- Choose a backup storage plan on the CodeGuard page and complete checkout.
- Provide the website (and, if needed, database) access credentials CodeGuard needs to connect, following the setup steps in your GrabbyHost client account.
- Let CodeGuard complete the initial backup, then check that ongoing automated backups are running as expected.
- If you ever need to recover content, use CodeGuard's restore options to roll back to a previous backed-up version.
Good to Know
CodeGuard is a recovery layer, not a security product — it doesn't scan for malware or block attacks by itself. For malware scanning and removal, see SiteLock. For monitoring website or server uptime and performance, see 360 Monitoring. CodeGuard, SiteLock and 360 Monitoring solve different problems and work well together as part of a wider website security setup.
